Quintessential John Anthony Park St Ives harbour scene with his signature mastery of colour and light and a wealth of St Ives detail; including the 15th Century St la’s Parish Church and Victorian terraces.
Most of Park’s St Ives harbour works look out of the harbour or towards Smeaton’s Pier. ‘Peaceful Haven, St Ives’ unusually looks across the harbour and up to the tiers of town terraces affording us a detailed view of St Ives in the 1930s. On the right of the composition, we see the 15th Century St la’s Church, built during the reign of King Henry V. To the left, Tregenna Terrace, Park Avenue and other St Ives Victorian terraces.
The foreground harbour is full of fishing boats and leisure vessels; their sails drying in the breeze.
A quintessential John Anthony Park set in St Ives harbour brimming with his favourite subject matter and full of the light and kaleidoscopic colour for which he was justly renowned.
